Hangyoku of Asakusa

I went to Tokyo in April and took the chance to dress up as a maiko (or a hangyoku as they are known in Tokyo) ^__^

It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience to experience how it feels like to be a maiko and believe me, dressing up as a work of art on a daily basis is difficult and these ladies have my utmost respect.

Piror to the shoot, I read up as much as I could on the geiko and maiko culture, their profession and their poses so that the kimono, the hair accessories, makeup, etc would be as accurate as possible to the real deal.

I was fortunate that the sakura at Sensoji Temple were still in bloom and the weather was sunny and good during my photoshoot. I couldnt thank the Gods of Kanto enough for that!

The downside was being followed around by the hoardes of tourists during the shoot @__@

P/S: Walking & balancing in those gravity-defying okobo was a complete nightmare @_@
